September 11, 2001 is a deep festering wound in the soul of the country that has also caused mental damage. 9/11 released a genie from the bottle that turned the world, and America in particular, against the ideal of freedom. Since 9/11, a significant portion of Americans have become very receptive to conspiracy theories, including Trump himself. Trump also believes that 9/11 was a kind of suicide bombing to provide an excuse to attack Afghanistan! This was the point that ultimately led to Trump's political rise, but in the meantime there was also an economic crisis in 2008-2009! In short, the roots of Trumpism lie in 9/11.
